
Noyon Lanka (Private) Limited has partnered with Eco Spindles (Private) Limited to repurpose used IBC tanks into plastic drop‑off bins, creating a cost‑effective and resource‑saving solution to reduce plastic pollution. With Eco Spindles serving as the recycling partner, the initiative emphasizes practical, on‑the‑ground impact and supports Sri Lanka’s transition toward a circular economy.
These bins will be placed in key locations across Warakapola, Kottawa, and Ragama, providing communities with a simple and accessible way to responsibly dispose of plastics. By capturing freely discarded plastic waste, the project takes a meaningful step toward building a cleaner environment and fostering a more sustainable future.

Eco Spindles, a fully owned subsidiary of BPPL Holdings PLC, together with Green Earth Group N.V, officially launched the Green Wheels Plastic Collection. The event was attended by the Minister of Environment, Dr. Dammika Patabendi, senior representatives from both organisations, and stakeholders from across the sustainability and recycling sectors.
Sri Lanka generates 249,037 tonnes of plastic waste annually, yet only 11% is recycled, according to the National Plastic Waste Inventory 2024. The Green Wheels initiative is designed as a transformative response to this gap, introducing a fleet of 50 locally manufactured electric bikes to collect plastic waste directly from rural, urban, and underserved communities.
With a target of collecting and recycling 6,500 tonnes of plastic per annum, the project focuses heavily on community upliftment. By integrating women, youth, and low-income families into the collection and sorting ecosystem, Green Wheels aims to create stable income-generating opportunities while significantly improving the reach and efficiency of Sri Lanka’s recycling infrastructure.

Eco Spindles participated in the National Buyer‑Seller Forum, themed “Towards a Nation Free from Plastic Pollution: Connect. Collaborate. Circularize.” The event was organized under the EU SWITCH‑Asia‑funded PLASTICS Project and brought together key stakeholders across Sri Lanka’s plastics value chain.

Eco Spindles partnered Lyceum International School, Gampaha towards, responsibly dispose of plastic bottles. The important step undertaken by the institute’s Nature Club is playing a vital role in building environmental consciousness among students from a young age.

Eco Spindles partnered the North Central Province Local Authorities for ‘Better Recycling Practices’. The awareness program was conducted recently for local authority officers in the North Central Province.
Through the experience in the region, it was understood that proper segregation and recycling of waste continues to be a major challenge. During the session, the current gaps in local waste management was discussed with practical solutions explored and ways in which the private sector can contribute was brought to the table.
It is believed, the initiative will help local authorities reduce landfill waste and unlock new opportunities for income generation, proving that sustainable waste management is not just good for the environment, but also for the community.

HDFC bank received a Certificate of Recycling from Eco Spindles, a prominent plastic recycler, in recognition of the efforts in plastic waste collection and recycling through the banks bin network in the year 2024.
This certificate stands as a testament to the banks contribution to environmental sustainability and its role in promoting responsible waste management.
Since October 2022, HDFC has partnered with Eco Spindles to facilitate responsible plastic waste disposal. As part of this initiative, dedicated recycling bins have been placed at selected bank branches and public locations, allowing customers to dispose of recyclable waste plastics. The collected plastic is then sorted and processed into high-quality raw materials, including filaments and yarn, contributing to a more sustainable circular economy.

Atlas Axillia recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eco Spindles Pvt Ltd to reduce plastic waste in Sri Lanka.
The agreement was signed to forge a partnership focused on enhancing the recycling of plastic waste, preventing its accumulation in the environment and renewing plastics that would otherwise deteriorate, causing harm to human health.
